  • Do I have to raise money or donate?
Not at all. You can help by filling backpacks with us, or by taking a photo or making a video about why you think it's important that kids have the right tools for school. You don't have to directly ask anyone for a donation.
  • Who can become a Backpack Ambassador?
Any young person between 5 and 18.
  • I'm a parent/guardian, can I sign my child up to be a Backpack Ambassador?
We encourage parents/guardians to support and work with their young people who are Backpack Ambassadors AND we really want youth to participate in this program because they WANT to, and not because an adult is telling them they HAVE to. So, yes, you can sign up your child, as long as they're part of that decision.
  • How do I get started?
Simply fill out the form above, and we'll reach out to you. Next, we'll do a brief orientation meeting with all of our Backpack Ambassadors to find out how you each want to help. Then, your parents and you will compete a photo release form (if you want your photo taken, if not, that's okay too!) Finally, you get started helping us raise awareness about our Backpack Program.
  • What does a Backpack Ambassador do?
A Backpack Ambassador helps us spread the word about the importance of getting backpacks and school supplies to kids in need. That might look like: Sharing a video of you talking about why people should donate to our Backpack Program. Asking your friends and family to help you raise money or donate school supplies. Taking a picture with us and our donors when they drop off donations to Town House. Helping fill the backpacks. Helping write thank you cards to our donors. Or any other way you can think of to help!! You can do any, or all of the above!
  • How much time do I have to commit?
As much, or as little as you want. On average, we think most youth will help out for an hour or two a week during August.
  • What do I get out of being a Backpack Ambassador?
Volunteering in your community has many benefits: Learning new skills and gaining confidence Building relationships with other youth and adults Building your "network" which can later help you get jobs, scholarships, and other opportunities. Volunteering looks great on a resume If feels nice to help others You'll also get a certificate of appreciation and the sincere thanks of the Town House team and all the families who use our backpack program.
  • Do I have to be a Backpack Program Recipient?
No. We're just looking for young people who want to help others in their community. It doesn't matter if you've ever received a backpack from us or not, and we won't ask you to disclose if you've used the Backpack Program or not.
