Hilda Wright opened the first Nursery School at Knox Hall in 1969, with twenty children and four volunteer teachers. Citizens Service League now has two class sites: Town House and Passchendaele House.
Classes are open to children in the year prior to attending Grade Primary, and are held for 2.5 hours a day two days a week from September to June. Classes are available in the mornings or afternoons and are instructed by qualified Early Childhood Educators with the assistance of volunteers.
Nursery School provides a positive opportunity for children to play with others, participate in crafts and activities and get prepared for “Big School” in September. In 2017, the name of the program changed to “Preschool”.

Town House has been supporting local high school students who plan to study at a recognized post-secondary institution, who display qualities of understanding and compassion for others and show an interest in community concerns since 1977 through the awarding of an annual scholarship in the name of Hilda Wright. Beginning in 1999, a second scholarship was added in the name of Elinor McArel. Hilda Wright was the founder of Citizens Service League and Elinor McArel was one of the first Directors of the organization.
Beginning in our 50th Anniversary year (2015), the League will be awarding the scholarships at their Annual General Meeting in June of each year.
